There is no doubt that Covid-19 has greatly affected not only how we behave as individuals, but also how we use the spaces that were built for us. Now, the question is how these spaces can be returned to the community taking into account the security measures that must be strictly followed. At the same time, how can we design a space that is not only appropriate for this crisis but also for the unpredictable events that lie ahead?

 

This proposal aims to provide a paradigm shift due to unforeseen circumstances and preserve the essence of what we know as “public spaces”. The team selected Calle A, a long, unused corridor in the Zona Franca, as a starting point in their exploration of the design. The first step is to preselect various activities in Barcelona. He then continues to recreate them in a smaller scale of retractable hexagonal capsules that will be deployed throughout the site.
